Zìshù shī

(Táng) Hánshān

Shí rén jiàn Hánshān, gè wèi shì fēng diān.

Mào bù qǐ rén mù, shēn wéi bù qiú chán.

Wǒ yǔ tā bù huì, tā yǔ wǒ bù yán.

Wèi fù wǎng lái zhě, kě lái xiàng Hánshān.

A poem of Han Shan

A poem by Han Shan (Cold Mountain)/Tr. by Guodong

When people see Hanshan, they all say “he is fool.”
Poor clothes wrapping body, the looks can not attract any attention.
They don’t get what I say, and I don’t speak in their way.
Message left to the visitors, “Come on and face to cold mountain.”

Han Shan, Tang dynasty (唐 618–907)

When men see Han-shan
They all say he’s crazy
And not much to look at –
Dressed in rags and hides.
They don’t get what I say
And I don’t talk their language.
All I can say to those I meet:
“Try and make it to Cold Mountain.”
